T-Mobile, Sprint, the Rural Carrier Association, and Public Knowledge plan to tackle Verizon Wireless’s proposed purchase of 122 AWS spectrum licenses from a consortium of cable companies head-on. The groups are prepared to announce a new initiative on Monday called the Alliance for Broadband Competition, which will more aggressively push the government to scrutinize Verizon’s plan. Verizon wants to use the AWS spectrum to supplement the 700MHz spectrum it currently uses for its LTE 4G network. The proposal has met with resistance from a wide range of organizations that fear the deal will give Verizon too much spectrum holdings. The deal is being reviewed by the Federal Communications Commission.
