Business Insider, who’s industry rumors are normally hit or miss, is reporting today that Google could be looking to imitate a popular Apple feature inside of iOS — Apple’s Game Center. Word is, Google’s version of Game Center will include achievements and trophies, as well as leaderboards. Google+ will no doubt play a gigantic role in the social aspect for this native client. The industry source told BI:

“They are starting to really understand all of the demands and wants to make a game really successful. As recently as even a year ago, that really wasn’t part of their institutional DNA, But I think they’re getting there.”

Currently, there are a few 3rd party solutions that offer social gaming aspects. Services like Open Feint can be found in numerous popular Android games and it looks like Google could be stepping on some toes if this pans out. Google declined to comment on this possible Game Center like service, but maybe we’ll hear more at Google I/O in June.
