Google today took the wraps off a heavily revised version of Google+ for the Apple iPhone. Google senior vice president Vic Gundotra said that this new app is “an essential step in [a new] direction–toward a simpler, more lovely Google.” Some of the new features include “crisper fonts, larger profile pics and a friendlier homescreen.” Gundotra explained that Google wants the stream to be easier on the eyes to scan through and view, and is using visual effects such as overlays, gradients, and other elements. Google said that the performance of the application has been considerably improved with this new release. Specific enhancements include conversations that fall into view as you move forward and backward in time;
optical cues that draw the eye to individual posts; and
+1 notifications that float atop the stream. Google says the app should be much faster and much more fluid. The update is hitting the iPhone App Store today, and a similar update will be obtainable to the Android platform in the coming weeks.
